چکیده

The isolation and quantitative determination of certain metabolic products formed from carbon compounds by crown-gall and related bacteria have been studied as part of a larger program (Riker and Berge, 1935) on atypical and pathological multiplication of cells. The general question of the metabolism of these microorganisms has been reviewed in a previous paper (Conner, Peterson and Riker, 1937) dealing specifically with the nitrogen metabolism. The crown-gall and related organisms do not produce carbon dioxide from sugars rapidly enough to be classed in the conventional manner as gas formers (Smith, et al., 1911; Riker et al. 1930; and Pinckard, 1935). Studies on single-cell cultures by Sagen et al. (1934), Wilson (1935) and others have shown that while the hairy-root organsm produces some acid, the crowngall organism produces little or no acid. It seems likely, therefore, that substances other than carbon dioxide and acids are produced in considerable quantities. The present paper reports studies on the carbon metabolism of these organisms with special reference to certain products resulting from their action on glucose.

This study evaluated the induction of hairy roots in Perovskia abrotanoides Karel, a medicinally important member of Lamiaceae family, using different strains of Agrobacterium rhizogenes and various carbon supplies, for the first time. This research established an efficient Agrobacterium mediated transformation system for this plant species through bacterial strains including ATCC15834, TR105 a...

Attenuated Response to Agrobacterium Strains1

We have examined the response of the hormone-resistant mutants axrl and axr2 of Arabidopsis thaliana to inoculation by Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Our results indicate that recessive mutations in the axrl gene affect the frequency of tumor formation after inoculation with either Agrobacterium strain. In addition, tumors produced on axrl plants were smaller than those...

The Oncogenes of Agrobacterium Tumefaciens and Agrobacterium Rhizogenes

The common soil bacteria Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Agrobacterium rhizogenes are unique genetic pathogens capable of fundamentally redirecting plant metabolism in order to generate macroscopic tissue masses (crown galls and hairy roots, respectively) which support the growth of large populations of Agrobacteria. Central to pathogenesis is the horizontal transfer of a suite of oncogenes from ...

Investigation relationship between topographic factors and characteristics of Gall oak (Quercus infectoria Oliv) with the biomass and nutrients of fine root (Case study: Shineh, Lorestan)

The current research is based on the existing ecological conditions in the Zagros forests and knowledge of the response of forest trees to these conditions and the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of topographic factors, tree characteristics on of fine roots biomass of gal oak (Quercus infectoria Oliv.) and also to compare the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in th...

Improving Trigonelline Production in Hairy Root Culture of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Background: Trigonella foenum-graecum L. commonly known as fenugreek is a rich source of important medicinal metabolite, i.e. trigonelline. Objective: In this study, hairy roots culture as a novel method for trigonelline production was evaluated. Methods: For optimizing the hairy roots culture of Trigonella foenum-graecum, three strains of Agrobacterium rhyzogenes (ATCC15834, MSU440 and K...
